Peak Brain Centers - USA
This is from a client of ours (Tim Harris – Peak Brain Centers USA)
I was first introduced to the ThinkFast photobiomodulation helmet this past fall as part of a trial at Peak Brain Centers. Since March 2021, I’ve been dealing with Long Covid, and in addition to ongoing disabling physical effects, the cognitive impact has been as much if not more troublesome as a wife and mom of four very active kids. A couple years ago I was strongly encouraged to try neurofeeedback at Peak Brain Centers by several friends and former clients who thought it could really help my significant brain fog and memory struggles, and it turns out they were right. My memory, focus, sleep, emotional processing, and creativity have improved dramatically with neurofeedback, though progress has been slow as my brain continued to feel like a phone with a broken charger that could never quite get enough power to make it through a day. Post-exertional malaise (PEM) is a hallmark symptom of Long Covid, and while I had expanded my physical energy envelope gradually through the help of physical therapy, mental fatigue continued to be a significant challenge. The dreaded “Covid crash” hit hard and fast and often.
This past fall when I had the opportunity to try the ThinkFast helmet, I was very intrigued but also cautious to get my hopes up, as many treatments I’ve trialed look promising but fall short of expectations. The idea that the helmet could support mitochondria—the energy-boosters of the cell—was especially exciting given the constant mental crashes I’d experienced. And any chance of reducing inflammation sounded amazing as well. My doubts were quickly erased upon using the “alert boost” protocol just once though, as I felt a change in my brain almost immediately. That day (Thursday) I remember going from the brain center to the gym and flying through my physical therapy more easily than normal. By very late the next evening (Friday), I realized that I was still on my feet helping my older kids get to places they needed to be and had spent the entire day completing mental tasks that had been piling up for a long time—paying bills, shopping, etc. Since the beginning of my Long Covid journey, never once before had I still been helping my kids with anything in the late evenings, because my brain would run out of power hours before.
The helmet has continued to have a profound impact on my mental fatigue, and for several months Fridays were my very favorite day of the week after using “alert boost” on Thursdays. We are now using the helmet a little differently and use it for just 10 minutes twice a week prior to each neurofeedback session, and while I don’t get to enjoy the Friday energy rush as I did with the full protocol, overall my mental energy has remained improved throughout the week. Mental crashes still happen, but they are less often than before. Neurofeedback also seems to “stick” a lot better now that we’re using the helmet each session. In fact, in the few times recently when the helmet has been unavailable, I was reminded how exhausted I used to be after brain training. With using the helmet first I can now just continue on about my day instead of rushing home to take a solid nap. While I’m not completely sure other factors weren’t involved, I also had a noticeable decrease in migraines during the months of using the full “alert boost” protocol each week.
Overall the ThinkFast helmet has been tremendously effective in fighting the mental fatigue that comes with Long Covid. It compliments neurofeedback especially well for me, and using it alone provides the “charge” my brain has been lacking. Overall, this tool has been an incredible blessing in my healing journey!
